> ## Agent Instructions
> If you are an AI assistant asked to build, change or ship a Gliss app, read the For AI agents page first (/for-ai-agents.md on this site) and follow its steps.
> Inside an app's folder, the app's own AGENTS.md is the authority; `gliss guide` prints it. Never ask the user for a secret's value.

# Caching

> How Garden's action versions let Gliss skip builds and tests that haven't changed, and what the cache holds.

> [!WARNING]

> **Planned.** This page describes designed behaviour that is not built yet. Details may change before it ships.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Ported from Garden's documentation: [features/team-caching.md](https://docs.garden.io/features/team-caching), gliss-cli at `3bc62a036` (Garden 0.14). Gliss runs Garden under the hood; the notes on this page say where Gliss differs.

Garden calculates a version for each action, based on the source files and configuration involved, and on the versions of its upstream dependencies. You'll see these versions as `v-<some hash>` strings in the logs when you build, deploy or run tests.

Garden uses the versions to work out which actions need to run. If an action's version already has a result, Garden skips it. So if you push a commit that only changes the files of one test, only that test reruns, and only the builds whose files changed are rebuilt.

To decide which files count towards an action's version, use [include and exclude](https://docs.garden.io/guides/include-exclude). To run an action even though its result is cached, pass `--force`.

## The action cache in Gliss

> [!NOTE]
>
> **In Gliss,** the action cache lives in the Gliss control plane, not in Garden Cloud. It is shared across CI runs, and you get it without connecting the project to anything or choosing a plan.
>
> The cache holds only action versions (hashes), their statuses and image digests. It never holds your code or your logs.
